Pasture egg farming is quite different to your conventional "free range" farming methods... Our chickens are free to roam all day long, and are continually moved onto fresh green pasture along side their "moveable coops" - where they hang out, sleep and lay their eggs. Having this new and unique style of commercial farming in New Zealand allows our girls to get everything they require in a balanced diet - from fresh greens, seeds, bugs & grubs and everything in between!
Your conventional "free range" egg farm still allows their hens to roam, which is great but due to their "fixed barns" - they are roaming on the same ground for their entire lifespan. A ground of which is quickly depleted of any nutrients, any green grass that once was, and are entirely dependent on processed feed, therefore not accessible to the same diverse diet as a pasture raised chicken.
Foraging on fresh green pasture daily plays a vital role in allowing our chickens to get all the nutrients and protein they require in their diet.
The result is evident - Our eggs are superior tasting, full of flavour and have rich golden yolks.
Pretty simple really... The happier, healthier, stress-free the chicken the better tasting the egg!

Animal Welfare SECOND TO NONE
We pride ourselves on giving our chickens the superior lifestyle, with animal welfare being paramount.
Our chickens have the freedom to roam on fresh green pasture 24/7, with a land mass that is over 10 x the amount of earth than your everyday conventional "free range" chicken farm would allow. Our ladies don't have trimmed beaks or clipped wings. They do what every chicken should in their natural environment; scratch and forage for juicy insects & bugs, bath in dust baths, bask in the sun, flap their wings and come running when they know a special treat of colostrum, milk, barley, oats, garlic or honey are coming! Living this stress free, happy, healthy life is all part of our story and is KEY to creating such a great tasting, premium quality pasture egg.

Quality NOT Quantity
Olliff Farm never set our to feed the masses, we literally can't with our farming methods, but that's the way we wanted to do it. We wanted to produce
an egg like no other - an egg for the egg connoisseur!
Our eggs are for people that appreciate great produce and understand what it takes to achieve this .
Once people have tried our eggs the quality, taste and freshness is evident, and is like no other.
Understanding what you are eating, and where your food is coming from naturally goes hand in hand with the way we farm at Olliff Farm.
Being transparent in everything we do, allows us to bring the farm to plate in our clients creations - with our eggs being the hero of the dish in many! We are now finding chefs are doing creations around our eggs which is a rewarding feat in itself.

Sustainable Farming
We didn't just set out to produce a great tasting quality egg we wanted to be sustainable in the process too. We do this by using micro flocks in a style of farming which is called "cell grazing". Each flock is made up of 300-400 birds, unlike flocks of 10,000 or more . Being able to move our coops around the farm is KEY, this allows the pasture to be foraged and then rested with the hens providing a natural fertilizer in-turn helps to rejuvenate the soil again. All part of 'the circle of life.'
